What Goes Into a Quality Driveway

A driveway has to do more than look good on the day it’s poured. Proper preparation, drainage, concrete placement, finishing, and control joints all play a role in how the finished driveway performs over time.

Proper Site Preparation

The area is prepared and graded before concrete placement to create a stable foundation and help manage drainage.

Concrete Placement & Finishing

Careful placement and finishing help produce a clean, consistent surface built for everyday vehicle traffic.

Control Joints

Strategically placed joints help manage where normal concrete shrinkage and movement occur.

Optional Upgrades

Additional concrete thickness and upgraded reinforcement can be quoted when a project or homeowner calls for them.

Concrete Driveway FAQs

Answers to common questions homeowners have about concrete driveway installation and replacement.

How long does a concrete driveway project take?

Most concrete driveway projects take about 2–3 working days, plus an additional day for cleanup. Larger projects, weather, site access, and other job conditions can affect the schedule.

We recommend waiting 7 days after the final concrete pour before driving on the new driveway. If part of the driveway, such as the apron, is poured on a later day, the 7-day waiting period begins after that final pour.

For a driveway replacement, we remove the existing concrete, prepare and grade the area, install the forms and reinforcement, place and finish the new concrete, and clean up the project area when the work is complete.

In many cases, yes. Driveway widening and extensions can provide additional parking or make an existing driveway more functional. What can be added depends on the property layout and applicable city requirements, so we evaluate the project before providing a quote.

Our standard driveway quotes are based on 4-inch concrete with rebar spaced approximately 2 feet on center. Concrete thickness and reinforcement can be adjusted or upgraded depending on the project, expected use, and the homeowner’s preferences.

Concrete naturally expands, contracts, and shrinks as conditions change, so cracking can occur over time. Proper preparation and strategically placed control joints help manage normal concrete movement and encourage cracking to occur at planned locations.
